Merry Christmas from EPARA! 🎄

 This year’s Hamfest is definitely one for the books!

It all started the night before when a rumor began making the rounds that the Hamfest had been cancelled. We have no idea where that information originated, but like a good radio signal, it started traveling! Thankfully, we were able to get the word out and set everyone straight: THE HAMFEST WAS ON!

Then came Saturday.

And what a Saturday it was!

The skies opened up and gave us a torrential downpour. But did that stop EPARA? Absolutely not! We showed up, set up, and figured the weather would eventually cooperate.

Well… it didn’t.

We had zero outdoor vendors, but five brave souls made their way inside and set up shop. And despite the weather, they had a pretty good day.

John – K3WH – strategically set up near the food table. This allowed him to cook breakfast sandwiches while keeping an eye on his impressive collection of equipment. John had some great gear, and he priced it to sell. And sell it did! We greatly appreciate John’s generosity and his continued support of EPARA.

The food operation also went extremely well. Dave, John, and Bob spent much of the day cooking, while Rose took on cashier duties and had a great time talking with everyone who came through the door.

When the morning started, we were convinced the rain was going to put a serious damper on the Hamfest. But, much to our surprise, people kept showing up! Ham radio operators are apparently not afraid of a little rain—or perhaps they just really wanted to see what was for sale!

With only five vendors inside, the buyers had fewer tables to visit, which may have actually worked in our favor. John, in particular, moved a lot of equipment.

By the end of the day, we could look back and say that the Hamfest was a success! Despite the rain, the rumors, and the lack of outdoor vendors, we raised as much as—or possibly even more than—we did at last year’s event.

A BIG THANK YOU goes out to everyone who showed up, helped set up and tear down, cooked, sold equipment, worked the tables, bought something, or simply came out to support EPARA.

The weather may have tried to QRN our Hamfest, but it didn’t work!
